Helicopter Skiing

Heli Skiing Canada At It’s Finest

Since 1970, Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing (MWHS) has been at the forefront of heli-skiing in Canada. MWHS is located in Blue River, BC, in the heart of the breathtaking open bowls and peaks of the Cariboo, Monashee and Rocky mountain ranges. Here, the warm air from the west meets the cold-dry air from the north and creates more than 10 metres of perfect powder each winter. The northern latitude helps ensure there is all the consistent cold weather needed for snow. Ski terrain here is massive and covers 40 miles (64 km) from East to West and 80 miles (128 km) from North to South, 1,000 peaks and runs over 1,750 square miles (4,550 square km), 553 named runs.

Mike Wiegele’s hosts and instructors are chosen for their ability to provide you with an exciting and memorable heli skiing Canada vacation while always caring for your safety and comfort. Many multilingual senior guides have been with MWHS for more than 20 years and have earned the highest levels of qualification available, both as guides and ski instructors.

At the end of the day, the MWHS Heli Village allows guests to enjoy the best of the day’s powder skiing and then return to one of the luxurious log chalets or estate houses. The year-round village has all the amenities and fine dining of a luxury ski resort, in a location and with views you won’t believe.

Travelling safely in the mountains requires that MWHS guides balance excitement and challenge with safety and comfort. Guides meet each morning and evening and using state of the art equipment, review field observations, snow pit data and remote weather station data feeds. They then choose the day’s ski terrain based on snow stability analysis and predicted weather. Throughout the day, guides will continue to test snow stability and avalanche risk.

Each guest is issued a BCA Tracker 2 transceiver as well as a light shovel pack, equipped with a shovel and probe. Guests are required to wear the transceiver while in the mountains and are instructed in its use before beginning heli-skiing or boarding. All guides carry rescue equipment and first aid supplies in their packs. Safety for their guests is paramount.

Experience the best skiing of your life!
